Queensland Aluminium Limited
The Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) refinery is
one of the world’s largest alumina refineries and covers 80 hectares of a 3050 hectare site on the south-east outskirts of the city of Gladstone QLD.
The VersEseal Liquid Rubber team were engaged on a subcontract basis by Veolia Environmental Services to apply VersEseal Liquid Rubber Quick Set specification to a combined 1605 square metres of area across several roofs at the QAL refinery with a final dry film thickness of 2.0mm.
The product was specifically chosen for its adhesion and sealing qualities as well as its excellent resistance to ultraviolet light. This was doubly important as the VersEseal Liquid Rubber Quick Set was used to seal the roofs on several electrical substations (primarily 13, 22B, 22D, 27B and TTMC) as well as some bunded areas at the refinery.
The coating was applied to all the required areas within a 10 day construction period. This further exemplifies the efficiency of the supply and install of the VersEseal Liquid Rubber product over its competitors in the harshest of environments.
Due to the constant dust problems as well as weather restrictions, the VersEseal Liquid Rubber Quick Set was applied using the airless spray pump. This machine allows for a smooth and efficient application as well as enabling a fast curing time which allows for a clean and dry surface within few hours.
VersEseal Liquid Rubber offered QAL the following distinct advantages over competing products:
- Excellent adhesion to dated surfaces
- Excellent resistance to ultraviolet rays
- Excellent resistance to temperature variations
- Excellent resistance to chemicals such as Caustic Soda and Sulphuric Acid
- Excellent elongation and recovery properties (over 850%)
- Efficent and short application time (per m2) and short curing time
Environmentally friendly with no VOC’s
